Petr Semerád wins Rallysprint Series 2018
The junior racing driver Petr Semerád has won the A-Sport Rallysprint series 2018 at the Rally Jeseníky. Semerád previously successfully represented the Křenek Motorsport team in single-seaters with Formula Gloria C8F and Formula 4 cars.
Semerád, who was discovered in the junior talent competition JuniorSTAR back in 2016, raced for Hájek Rally Team this year together with Jiří Hlávka (Opel Adam R2).
Currently, the winners of one-day rally competitions are not entitled to become the Czech national champions. But if the rules were different, the Czech Republic would have had its youngest rally champion in history. Semerád managed to win despite being just 17 years old.
“It’s hard to explain how happy I am to just finish it. I wasn’t even thinking about the result, I just wanted to make it to the end without any errors. Big thanks to the whole team. I’m still feeling a bit sick to fully realise, that we’ve, with Jiří, managed to win the whole Rallysprint series. It’s probably going to take a few days. So many people worked so hard for this, especially my dad, who has helped me a lot and I’d like to thank him. Winning the Rallysprint series is a confirmation that we’ve taken the right direction and I’d like to thank all the people who have been helping me – my brother Martin, Jiří Hlávka and Ctirad Hájek. But there are so many more people. Now, we need to keep pushing and we need to discuss our next steps with the team. I won’t be 18 until next May and we must respect that. But I want to keep racing and I don’t really care with what kind of car!” said Petr Semerád after the event.
