Groszek stays in the lead, but Vuković and Semerád are close
TCR Eastern Europe is a very competitive and close championship. Out of four races so far, we have four different winners. Patrick Sing and Milenko Vuković were the newest faces on the top step of the podium during the event at Red Bull Ring.
The weekend in Austria was full of drama for racers and spectators alike. And this is what TCR championships are all about. Close battles, accidents, some technical issues, and happy faces on the podium. Although Sing and Vuković scored one victory each, the points leader remains same – Bartosz Groszek. The driver from ADITIS Racing finished both races in fourth place and scored enough points to stay in the lead of the driver classification, with 64 points.
Behind Groszek, some big changes occurred. Even though Vuković didn’t finish the first race, winning the second moved him up to second place, with 58 points. Coming in right behind him is Peter Semerád with 52 points. The Czech driver from the Hyundai / Janík Motorsport team had to retire from the first race, so we can only guess where he would be in the standings if he had scored any points in it.
Fourth in the standings, with 37 points, is Petr Čížek, who drove superbly in the opening race at Red Bull Ring and finished in second position – his personal best in TCR Eastern Europe. Just two points behind Čížek is Patrick Sing, who planned to compete only in the Red Bull Ring event, but since winning the first race, he is considering further participation.
Sixth in the standings is Václav Janík, who didn’t score any points in Hungary, so he changed up his approach to driving his Hyundai and managed to finish in third place twice during the weekend in Austria. Seventh and eighth are Jáchym Galáš and Maťo Homola, who, so far, have only participated in the Hungaroring event; therefore, they have fallen in the standings this season. Tomasz Rzepecki and Sebastian Steibel hold ninth and tenth place in the standings.
Besides Sing, there was another new driver in the field. Vít Smejkal debuted with last year’s championship-winning Cupra. The TCR world is very new to him and he did a really good at Red Bull Ring, coming in eighth and tenth, and collecting five points, which is enough to secure thirteenth position out of eighteen drivers.
The team classification is led by the Hyundai / Janík Motorsport team, in front of ADITIS Racing and Besagroup Vuković Motorsport. The Junior driver classification is led by Petr Semerád with 48 points, Tomasz Rzepecki comes in second with 28 points, Jáchym Galáš is in third, and, in fourth, is Levente Losonczy with 18 points. The Trophy driver classification, aimed at those who race with older cars, is led by Bartosz Groszek, in second is Petr Semerád, and in third is Tomasz Rzepecki.
